United Center Parking:
Everything You Need to Know
Official lots, cheaper alternatives, CTA options, drop-off locations, and how to pre-book before your event sells out the neighborhood — for Bulls games, Blackhawks games, concerts, and festivals.
The United Center is one of the busiest arenas in the United States — home to the Chicago Bulls and Chicago Blackhawks, host to major concerts and events year-round, and the venue for the Windy City Smokeout festival every July. Parking here is manageable when you know the options. It is expensive and stressful when you don’t.

Official United Center Parking Lots
The United Center operates its own parking lots directly adjacent to the arena. These are the most convenient option — you park and walk straight to the gate — but they are also the most expensive and fill up fast on high-demand events.
West of the arena. Direct walk to the main entrance. Fills first on sellout nights.
North of the arena near the United Center main campus. Good access, fills quickly.
South lot. Slightly longer walk but more likely to have availability on busy nights.
East of the arena toward Madison Street. Good option when other lots are full.
Official Lot Pros and Cons
- Maximum convenience. Park and walk directly into the arena — no transit, no rideshare, no extra steps.
- Well-managed and safe. United Center security staff the lots. Well-lit and monitored.
- Most expensive option. Expect $30–$50+ per event depending on demand. Playoff games and major concerts push the high end.
- Sells out on high-demand events. Sellout Bulls and Blackhawks games, major concerts, and Windy City Smokeout weekend days fill official lots well before event time.
- Exit is slow after events. Thousands of cars leaving the same lots simultaneously creates significant post-event traffic. Budget 20–40 minutes to exit.
Cheaper Parking Near the United Center
The United Center sits in the Near West Side neighborhood, surrounded by options that consistently undercut official lot prices. The walk from alternatives to the arena entrance runs 5–15 minutes depending on location.
Pre-Book Through SpotHero
SpotHero aggregates private lots and garages within walking distance of the United Center. Pre-booking through SpotHero consistently delivers $10–$20 savings per event versus official lot walk-up rates — and booking in advance guarantees your spot so you’re not hunting for parking while the opening tip-off happens.
Pre-book United Center parking through SpotHero and guarantee your spot before the event sells out the neighborhood.
Pre-book for playoff games, major concerts, and Windy City Smokeout weekend days at least a week in advance. Those events sell out nearby parking fast.
West Loop Garages
The West Loop neighborhood east of the United Center has multiple parking garages that offer competitive rates with a 10–15 minute walk to the arena. These fill up during Bulls and Blackhawks games but are accessible to early arrivers. Pre-book through SpotHero for best availability and rates.
Residential Street Parking
The Near West Side residential blocks surrounding the United Center have street parking that is free or unmetered on some blocks — but requires:
- Arriving 90+ minutes before the event. Spots fill as event time approaches. Early arrival is the only way to reliably find street parking.
- Reading every sign carefully. Chicago parking enforcement is active near the United Center on event days. Temporary no-parking signs can go up the morning of an event on blocks that are normally legal.
- Knowing Chicago towing is not a joke. A tow near the United Center costs $200+ between the ticket and impound fees. If you’re unsure about a spot, don’t park there. Read our Chicago Parking Tickets, Towing & Booting guide before you go.
The CTA Option: $5 Gets You There

Green Line to the United Center
$5 Day Pass — Unlimited RidesThe CTA Green Line and Pink Line both stop within walking distance of the United Center. The Damen Green Line station and the Ashland/Lake station are the closest options. A $5 CTA day pass covers unlimited rides all day — take it to the game, take it home.
For anyone staying in a Chicago hotel on the CTA network, this eliminates parking entirely. The train doesn’t surge after the game, doesn’t sit in post-event traffic, and costs a fraction of official lot parking.
| CTA Option | Stop | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Green Line | Damen station | Closest Green Line stop — short walk to arena |
| Green / Pink Line | Ashland & Lake | Easy walk west to the United Center |
| Blue Line | UIC-Halsted | Good option from O’Hare or downtown Blue Line corridor |
| Multiple bus routes | Various near United Center | Check CTA trip planner at transitchicago.com for your location |
Official Drop-Off & Rideshare Location
The official Uber, Lyft, and rideshare drop-off and pick-up location for the United Center is the NE corner of Madison and Paulina — 11 N. Paulina St.
- Share the address with your driver before they start. Drivers unfamiliar with the area default to the United Center main entrance, which adds time and congestion.
- Post-event rideshare surges hard. After sellout games and major concerts, Uber and Lyft surge significantly near the United Center. Either leave slightly before the final buzzer or have a plan to wait 20–30 minutes for surge to drop.
- The CTA is faster post-event than rideshare. On high-demand nights, the Green Line gets you away from the venue faster than sitting in rideshare traffic. Seriously consider it for the return trip even if you rode in.
Parking Strategy by Event Type
| Event | Demand Level | Recommended Strategy |
|---|---|---|
| Regular season Bulls or Blackhawks | Moderate | Pre-book SpotHero or take CTA — both work well |
| Playoff game | Very High | Pre-book SpotHero 1 week ahead or CTA — official lots sell out |
| Major concert (sold out) | Very High | Pre-book SpotHero immediately or CTA |
| Club-level or suite event | Moderate | Official lots or pre-booked SpotHero |
| Windy City Smokeout (weekday) | Low–Moderate | Street parking or SpotHero nearby lot |
| Windy City Smokeout (weekend) | Extremely High | Pre-book SpotHero now or CTA — do not wait |
Windy City Smokeout Parking
The Windy City Smokeout is a special case for United Center parking — the festival takes place in the United Center lots themselves, which means the venue that normally parks 10,000 cars for a game is simultaneously the festival grounds and the parking operation. Official lot capacity is significantly reduced during the Smokeout.

Local Tips for United Center Parking
- Arrive early — always. Whether you’re parking in an official lot, a SpotHero garage, or street parking, the United Center neighborhood fills up 60–90 minutes before major events. The earlier you arrive, the better your options and the cheaper your parking.
- Pre-book SpotHero this week for weekend events. Nearby private lots sell out. Book as early as possible for playoff games, major concerts, and Smokeout weekend days.
- The post-event exit is the same for everyone. Budget extra time regardless of where you park. Thousands of cars exiting simultaneously creates real traffic. The CTA leaves on a schedule and doesn’t sit in it.
- Know the official rideshare address. 11 N. Paulina St is the drop-off and pick-up point. Share it with drivers before the trip starts.
- Read temporary signs on event day. Blocks that are legal parking on a Tuesday can have temporary no-parking restrictions on a Saturday game day. Read every sign before you walk away from your car.
- The United Center neighborhood has limited dining within walking distance. Most fans eat before arriving or after leaving. If you’re looking for pre-game food, the West Loop has excellent options a short rideshare away.
